Look at it from this point of view:

I used to have three house cats (Names removed to protect the feline). Each of them had a really bad habit of knocking over the trash can. I would proceed to punish them (My process of punishment involves removing rewards, in this case tuna). In time, two of the cats learned not to knock over the trash can, but the third would still.

I would punish all three cats when he knocked over the trash can. It was not long before the other two cats would punish the evil doer. In time, he too discontinued knocking over the trash can.

My burning building is an extreme example, but the point holds true. Much in the same way that I can't communicate to my house cats, we have no reason to believe that a divine being can communicate with us.

Yes. Religious doctrine contain examples of specific people who could talk directly with "God". I find it interesting that these specific people usually were given instructions that worked to their benefit (There are exceptions, but honestly that could be poor planning on the part of the "prophet"). I don't buy the prophet thing. If it were that simple, there would be no reason for these questions to be raised in the first place.

Actually, your example shows quite clearly that you CAN communicate with your house cats.

That example has no relation to religion whatsoever. The cats don't have to believe you exist, they only have to learn what behaviour nets them the most tuna.

It would be different if you put cats that had never had any contact with other life forms of higher intelligence then other cats in an environment where you can supply them tune, without the cats being able to prove that the tuna is being supplied by an intelligent being, and then having the cats induce that there is an intelligent being behind it.

Of course the universe didn't make itself. did i ever say it did?

there are many theories. nobody knows quite yet how it came to be, which is why instead of dawdling my time away, worshiping something that isn't benefiting anybody else, i'll help someone by contributing to the research.

EDIT: noid, you're flippen hilarious. srsly.

It did, and being 10's not an excuse, I knew that around your age... I think. certainly knew it though.
